Malaysia is one of Australia's biggest beef export markets — and one of the most demanding. Every carton needs to satisfy both the Australian Department of Agriculture (DAFF) and Malaysia's Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM). Buying direct from an AQIS-registered exporter like The Meat Works removes a middleman and gives your kitchen or shop full traceability. Here's what the process actually looks like.
Minimum order quantities
Airfreight consignments start at 100 kg — appropriate for smaller restaurant groups needing rapid replenishment. Reefer sea-freight economics kick in above 800 kg per consignment, with palletised loads typically 1 – 5 tonnes for restaurant distributors.
The documentation stack
Every export consignment ships with the following paperwork travelling both physically with the freight and electronically with your customs broker:
- Halal Certificate — specific to your shipment, issued by an Australian Halal authority JAKIM recognises.
- DAFF Export Certificate — Australian government-signed health & meat inspection sign-off.
- Certificate of Origin — required by Malaysian Customs.
- Bill of Lading / Airway Bill — issued by the freight forwarder.
- Commercial Invoice + Packing List — carton-level detail with weights, cuts and export codes.
Cold chain from Malaga to KL
Our Malaga facility loads directly into reefer container at 2 °C for chilled or -18 °C for frozen. GPS + temperature loggers travel with each container. Sea transit is typically 12 – 14 days to Port Klang; airfreight to KL is 6 – 8 hours from carton pack.
Payment terms & pricing
New export accounts start on TT (telegraphic transfer) at 30 % deposit, 70 % on Bill of Lading. Established accounts move to 30-day terms. Prices are quoted FOB Fremantle for sea and CIF KLIA for air, in either AUD or USD.
Three questions to ask every Australian supplier
- Are you AQIS/DAFF-registered as an export establishment? (If they can't give an EN number, they can't legally export.)
- Which Halal certifier signs your export shipments? (Should be JAKIM-recognised — e.g. AFIC, ICWA, MHIS.)
- Can I see a sample of your last shipment's Halal Certificate? (Any legitimate exporter will provide this instantly.)
The right question isn't "how cheap can you go?" — it's "what paperwork travels with this carton?"
